Texas House Bill 2073 amended Chapter 180 of the Texas Local Government Code by creating section 180.008. The law now states that the governing body of a political subdivision shall develop and implement a paid quarantine leave policy for fire fighters, peace officers, detention officers, and emergency medical technicians who are employed by, appointed by, or elected for the political subdivision and ordered to quarantine or isolate due to a possible or known exposure to a communicable disease while on duty.
This policy ordinance meets that statutory requirement and defines how the city will apply the law to our police officers and firefighters who must miss work for on-duty exposures. Our existing practices have already aligned with this new policy.
This ordinance addresses the Purpose, Scope, and Policy statements. Procedural changes to the personnel policies are reviewed by the City Attorney and approved by the City Manager. The entire policy and procedures are included in the attachments.
