City of Georgetown, Texas
City Council Regular Meeting
September 10, 2019

SUBJECT:
First Reading of an Ordinance revising the Existing Chapter 3.01 Pertaining to Personnel Policies by amending sections 3.01.030 “Introductory Period,” 3.01.311 “Vacations,” and 3.01.313 “Sick Leave” of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Georgetown -- Tadd Phillips, Human Resources Director
ITEM SUMMARY:

As staff prepares to go live with Workday, we have identified a few personnel policy changes that will assist in the transition. The only policy change that may impact employees is the extension of Introductory Period, which will only impact future hires. The following is a summary of changes:

Policy: 3.01.030 “Introductory Period”

Change: Extending the Introductory period from three (3) months to six (6) months. This change aligns with industry best practice and gives both parties more time to evaluation.

Policy: 3.01.311 “Vacations”

Change: Updating the accrual charts in the Policy to reflect current practice.

Policy: 3.01.313 “Sick Leave”

Change: Adding an accrual chart similar to the Vacations policy to provide greater clarity.

A redlined showing all changes from current policy is attached. This ordinance addresses the Purpose, Scope, and Policy statements. Procedural changes to personnel policies are reviewed by the City Attorney and approved by the City Manager. All changes will be communicated to City employees using the learning management software and following all approvals.
